ULTIMATE NO LIMIT TEXAS HOLD ’EM SHOWDOWN

One Dollar Difference Poker Tournaments are rising in popularity throughout Arizona and around the country.  Hosting a One Dollar Difference Texas Hold ‘Em Poker Tournament for your family, friends and neighbors is a fun and easy way to socialize and raise money for The ALS Association Arizona Chapter.

Players participating in a One Dollar Difference Poker Tournament may qualify to play in an upcoming ALS ASSOCIATION ARIZONA CHAPTER’S ULTIMATE POKER SHOWDOWN.

Here are some guidelines to help you host a One Dollar Difference Texas Hold ‘Em Poker Tournament:

Entry Fee - You can set the price of the tournament to any amount you like.  Most tournaments set the price between $50 and $100 since $1,000 must be raised and donated to The ALS Association Arizona Chapter for the top 3 finishers to qualify for an upcoming ALS Association Arizona Chapter’s Ultimate Poker Showdown.  You may want to add money for food and drinks, include food & drinks in the entry fee or decide to just have everyone bring their own beverages and snacks.

Winnings – at least 50% of all monies raised goes to The ALS Association Arizona Chapter and the remainder to a winner’s pool that is divided among the winners.  Usually the top three finishers get a piece of the winner’s pool.  Typically first place is paid 50% of the winner’s pool, second place is paid 30% and third place gets 20%.  Remember, at least $1,000 must be donated to The ALS Association Arizona Chapter to participate in an upcoming Ultimate Poker Showdown.

Chips & Re-buys Guidelines - Entry fee gets player $2,500 in chips.  You can re-buy in the 1st hour if you go down to zero chips – minimum 20% of entry fee (e.g. $20 for $100 entry fee) for every $500 in chips up to maximum of $100 for $2,500 more in chips.  At the end of the 1st hour all players can pay 40% of entry fee (e.g. $40 for $100 entry fee) for $1,000 more in chips.

Blinds Structure - Below is a typical blinds structure for a Texas Hold ‘Em tournament:

Length of Rounds - The rounds are twenty minutes each and the blinds go up after each round.  You can purchase an inexpensive digital cooking timer to keep track of the time.  With this structure a tournament should last about 3 to 4 hours.

Dealing - Rotate the deal during the tournament.  As players get knocked out someone will usually volunteer to be the dealer.  It is always suggested that you have a dealer button handy to use.

Moving Players - If you have more than one table you will need to balance them as players get knocked out.  If there are more than two players missing from one table you will likely need to move one from the table with the most players.  This responsibility should fall on the person running the tournament.  When moving players, try to move the player in the same relative position on the fuller table as the empty seat on the smaller table.  Or, some tournaments will deal a card to each player at the table with the most players and the one with the high card must move.

Fun Ways to Raise More Money – Collect donated items from local businesses and hold a raffle, sell refreshments & cigars, host a golf tournament with a poker tournament afterward…the ideas are limitless!
